Texpeed textile biker jackets: what sets them apart

lightweight motorcycle jackets, textile biker jackets -

What makes Texpeed textile jackets stand out from the competition?

There are a lot of textile biker jackets on the market right now. Some cost a fortune.

Some look good in photos but fall apart after a season. And a worrying number comes with CE certification that, on closer inspection, does not hold up to scrutiny.

So when a brand keeps coming up in conversations between UK riders, year after year, it is worth taking a proper look at why.

Texpeed has been making motorcycle gear for over 20 years. They have sold more than 40,000 jackets globally, they are UK-based with a warehouse in Nottingham, and their CE documentation is publicly available on their website. That last point matters more than most people realise.

This blog takes a close look at what Texpeed does differently, and at two of their best lightweight motorcycle jackets currently available.

Why does textile work so well for riding in the UK?

Leather looks great and offers solid protection, but the UK climate is not kind to it. Rain hits fast. Temperatures drop without warning. A long motorway run in October can leave you freezing from the waist up if your jacket is not built for it.

Textile biker jackets solve this in ways leather simply cannot. You can build waterproof linings directly into the shell. You can add removable thermal liners for winter and strip them out in summer. You can add ventilation panels and air vents for warm days without compromising the structure of the jacket.

That flexibility is what makes lightweight motorcycle jackets such a sensible choice for everyday UK riding. You are not buying a jacket for one season. You are buying one garment that works across the year.

Product 1: Texpeed all season Cordura motorcycle jacket at £69.99

Protective textile biker jacket for comfortable everyday riding

This is the fourth edition of Texpeed's Cordura jacket, and it shows how much they have listened to feedback over the years. Each version has been improved. This one gets the balance of protection, storage, and all-weather performance about as right as you can at this price point.

The outer shell is 600D 82T Cordura fabric. Cordura is a trusted textile in motorcycle gear because it resists abrasion far better than ordinary fabric and holds its structure after years of hard use. It is not the same material as a cheap nylon shell, and you can feel the difference when you pick it up.

The main zip is YKK. This is a detail that matters. Anyone who has had a budget zip fail mid-ride will not overlook it again.

For ventilation and weather control, there is a front air vent with a nylon zipper and multi-function cover.

When it is warm you open it. When the rain comes in, you close it. The waterproofing comes from a 100% waterproof Reissa fix lining built directly into the jacket. No need to carry a separate rain cover or pull over at the side of the road.

For colder days, there is a removable and washable thermal liner. When summer arrives, you take it out and the jacket becomes a lighter shell. When winter returns, the liner goes back in. It is a simple system but it genuinely works, and the fact that it is washable is a practical detail that cheaper jackets often skip.

Sizes run from M to 5XL. Available in black or white, priced at £69.99.

Product 2: Texpeed aramid lined armoured motorcycle shirt jacket at £84.99

Textile biker jacket with stylish lightweight motorcycle jacket design

This is where Texpeed does something genuinely different. Most lightweight motorcycle jackets look like motorcycle jackets. That is fine on the bike, but the moment you walk into a shop, a cafe, or anywhere that is not a petrol station, you stand out.

The Texpeed motorcycle shirt jacket solves this. On the outside, it looks like a well-made casual button-up shirt. Inside, it is built to a Class AA protection standard.

The shell is premium cotton twill, which gives it that everyday fabric feel and appearance. Beneath that is a 280gsm aramid fibre lining in the key impact zones. Aramid fibre is used in cut-resistant industrial gloves and in ballistic protection applications. In a motorcycle garment, it provides serious resistance to abrasion and tearing without adding bulk or stiffness to the jacket.

The protection rating is EN 17092-3:2020 Class AA. To put that in plain terms, Class A is the entry level for urban riding. Class AA is the mid level, suitable for road riding, commuting, and touring at normal speeds. Class AAA is for track or high-speed riding. Class AA covers most UK riders for most of their riding.

Level 1 armour is fitted at the shoulders, elbows, and back as standard. If you want Level 2, Texpeed offers upgrade options within their range. All the armour is fully removable, so if you need to wear the shirt off the bike, you can take it out and it looks like any other shirt.

For riding comfort, there is a heavy-duty YKK centre zip, a press stud collar that stops the collar flapping at speed, and internal belt loops that reduce cold air coming up through the bottom while you are riding. The soft knitted inner lining sits comfortably against the skin and helps with heat management on longer rides.

Storage includes two outer pockets, one large internal pocket, and a dedicated mobile phone holder.

The size range is outstanding, going from S all the way to 10XL in some colours. Colour options include black, red, blue, grey, white, and a black mesh variant. Priced at £84.99, with the blue option available at £79.99.

What CE certification actually tells you

Both jackets are CE certified, and it is worth knowing what that means in practice.

CE-certified textile biker jackets are tested to the EN 17092 standard. Tests cover abrasion resistance on a road-like surface, tear strength under sudden force, seam strength under tensile load, and impact absorption from the fitted armour. Garments also go through dimensional stability checks, ergonomics testing, and garment restraint testing to confirm the protection stays in place during a slide.

This is independent, external laboratory testing. It is not self-declared. Texpeed publishes their CE testing information on their website, which many cheaper brands selling on marketplace platforms simply do not do. That transparency is one of the clearest signs that a brand takes safety seriously.

Which jacket is right for you?

Rider wearing lightweight motorcycle jacket for all-weather protection

The Cordura all season jacket suits riders who spend time on the road in all weather. It has the waterproofing, the thermal liner, and the ventilation to handle whatever the UK throws at it. If you commute year-round or do long touring rides, this is the one to look at first.

The aramid shirt jacket suits riders who want protection that does not look like protection. If you ride to work and walk straight into a meeting, or if you want a jacket you can wear comfortably off the bike without changing, this fills that gap in a way that very few other textile biker jackets do at this price.

Texpeed textile biker jackets stand out because they are built by a company that has spent two decades focused on one thing: motorcycle gear. Not fashion. Not general outdoor clothing. Motorcycle gear.

The pricing is honest, the CE certification is real, and both jackets reviewed here are built to be used in the real conditions UK riders actually face.

Whether you go for the all season Cordura jacket or the aramid shirt jacket, you are getting a product that has been thought through properly.

That is harder to find than it should be.
