Technical safety and CE protection explained

In the UK, we have strict rules about what counts as protective gear. You might see fashion jackets on the high street that look like biker gear, but they will not help you much if you come off your bike. A proper leather motorcycle jacket is a piece of safety equipment.

Real cowhide for abrasion resistance

Our jackets are made from premium cowhide, usually between 1.2mm and 1.4mm thick. This thickness is the sweet spot for bikers. It is heavy enough to provide excellent resistance against the road surface, but it is not so heavy that it becomes a chore to wear.

CE-approved armour as standard

Every jacket we sell comes with CE Level 1 protection in the shoulders and elbows. This armour is designed to absorb the force of an impact.

• Shoulder pads: These fit snugly inside internal pockets and protect your collarbone and shoulder joints.
• Elbow pads: These extend down your forearm to protect one of the most common impact points.
• Back protector pocket: While most riders have their own preferred back protector, our jackets come with a pocket ready for you to slip one in.

Built for the climate

Riding in the UK means dealing with all sorts of weather, often in the same afternoon. Our leather jackets are designed to be versatile.

Removable thermal liners

Most of our leather range comes with a zip-out thermal gilet or liner. This is perfect for those chilly spring mornings. When the sun finally comes out and the temperature rises, you can simply unzip the liner and store it in your pannier or backpack. This keeps you from overheating while still giving you full leather protection.

Strong YKK zips and fastenings

There is nothing more frustrating than a zip breaking when you are trying to get ready for a ride. We use heavy-duty YKK zips on the main front opening, the cuffs, and the pockets. These are built to last and can be easily operated even when you are wearing your gloves.

Finding your perfect fit

A leather jacket should fit like a glove. If it is too big, the armour will move around. If it is too small, you will feel restricted. Because we are a UK business, we use standard UK chest sizing in inches.

How to measure yourself

To get the right size, take a tape measure and wrap it around the fullest part of your chest, just under your armpits. It is usually best to do this while wearing a light t-shirt.

• If you are between sizes: We usually suggest going one size up if you plan on wearing a thick hoodie or jumper underneath.
• The "Snug" rule: Remember that leather naturally stretches slightly over time as it shapes itself to your body. It should feel snug but not tight.

Different styles for different riders

Every biker has their own style. We try to make sure our range covers the three main types of UK riders.

1. The Classic Cruiser: Think of the iconic Brando style with the diagonal zip and wide lapels. These are heavy, thick, and perfect for custom bike riders.
2. The Retro Cafe Racer: These have a cleaner look with a short collar and straight zips. They look fantastic with a pair of our armoured jeans.
3. The Sports Rider: These jackets often have pre-curved sleeves. This makes it much more comfortable when you are tucked in on a sports bike, as the leather doesn't bunch up at your chest.

Caring for your leather motorcycle jacket

If you look after your leather, it will last you a lifetime. Unlike textile gear, leather actually gets better with age.

• Keep it clean: Use a damp cloth to wipe away road salt, bugs, and grime after a ride. This stops the salt from drying out the hide.
• Condition the leather: Once or twice a year, use a good leather balm. This keeps the skin supple and helps it stay water-resistant.
• Dry it naturally: If you get caught in a British downpour, never put your jacket on a radiator. Hang it up at room temperature and let it dry slowly to prevent the leather from becoming brittle.
